Working for a private client, I served as the designer for a single family home on Vancouver island. Nestled within the forest outside Tofino, the house serves both as a primary residence as well as a bed and breakfast. The concept provides both public and private exterior space for the primary residents, as well as guests.

The primary facade material is locally sourced cedar, constructed as a rain screen over ICF on the first floor, and traditional wood framed construction on the second level. There is a dual language of the materials on the facade; with the primary surfaces directly facing out being Yakisugi, or Shou Sugi Ban fire treated cedar. While the areas of the primary mass that are carved to form sheltered terraces from the rain are left as natural cedar.
